Met force needs change at the top

-

COVERAGE of Sarah Everard’s Nottingham tribute is praiseworthy for the Post’s reporting of the proceeding, and for Nottinghamshire police officers’ handling of the tragic vigil held on Kings Street.

Readers will be acquainted with scenes of Metropolitan’s male police officers grabbing women and wrestling them to the ground.

Throughout Sunday, the gathering on Wimbledon Common could be monitored via social media.

Don’t be swift to blame the police, as Government has chopped and transform the legislation, governing Covid-19 rules, several times!

Initially, mainly females surrounded the bandstand. Clearly those in attendance obeyed the Covid-19 rules, with social distancing and wearing face coverings.

There were police dotted about strategically, but the congregation had freedom to mingle. That was the scene for ages.

Towards nightfall, speakers assembled in the bandstand, and it became apparent they lacked audio equipment as the audience had to move closer to hear what was spoken.

Something spooked the police, very quickly they went from being incognito to hands on!

Later that evening, it was reported the security services had informed senior Metropolitan officers that activists from Black Lives Matter were amidst the crowd.

Not to cast aspersions, but those in high ranking echelons, are too close to the seat of power, particularly Commander Dame Cressida Dick. Her peerage and medals says it all.

She’s endorsed by the Prime Minister and Home Secretary both architects of the Covid-19 omnishambles.

The pair stressed publicly, they don’t want her to resign!

Her response was she’s not leaving as she’s going to make women feel safe on the streets.

The Commander hasn’t accomplished her goal within the last four years! What’s changed now?

The Government is renowned for unadulterated cronyism when police officers are expected to act impartially!

Now, the Metropolitan Police needs a metamorphic overall at the top.
