Roundabout is ‘like a racetrack’
COUNCIL CONSIDERS JUNCTION CHANGES AFTER COMPLAINTS
A “CONFUSING” roundabout near the City Hospital is causing congestion and accidents, according to residents.
The roundabout connects Hucknall Road and Valley Road and is also the major access point to the hospital.
Jack Hersey, 31, a pharmacy technician in Sherwood, said: “It always seems to be a problem.
“I even witnessed an incident when a car went into the fence once.
“I do not drive. My wife does so I know it is a common issue.
“I don’t know what the solution might be, but something should be done about it as it seems like it is quite difficult for drivers to manoeuvre around it.”
Geoffrey Annable, 76, of Sherwood, said: “The biggest trouble is that they do not have white lines – there should be three lines here clearly showing drivers the way.
“It causes traffic and it is very confusing for the drivers – the council should do something about it.”
Steve Morrell, 62, now retired, has lived in the area for 25 years, and said the roundabout always seemed to be a hotspot for car accidents.
Mr Morrell added: “The rounda

bout is larger now, so it should be even easier for drivers.
“I think the traffic flows better now after the improvements, but it is the drivers that go too fast here.
“It is the attitude of the drivers – it is like a racetrack around here.”
Mark Fulford, 52, a facilities manager at the City Hospital, said: “I drive on Hucknall Road and then on to Edwards Lane, and sometimes the traffic is definitely an issue,” he said.
“Sometimes it takes some time for me to get out of the traffic.”
A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “There have not been any significant incidents on this roundabout in the last four years.
“However, we are aware that issues can arise when some drivers stay in the right turn lane rather than moving over to take their exit, often in heavy traffic when it might be difficult to find the gap to move over.
“We are looking to make a couple of minor changes to the lining when the roundabout is next relined, to see what impact this may have.”
