Treat in store for people who ‘love to rummage’

THESE pictures show what customers can expect from a new discount shop which is taking over the former British Home Stores site in Mansfield.

Stockmonster expects to open its West Gate branch in the town on April 12 – the day non-essential retailers are allowed to reopen.

The company, which has a branch in Arnold as well as others in the UK, specialises in selling unwanted stock and promises to provide prices at half the recommended retail price.

It is taking on the lower floor of the old

BHS department store which has been vacant since the company collapsed into administration five years ago.

Customers have been promised “anything and everything” in store, including designer clothes, gifts, furniture and household items.

Daniel Johnson, 31, will be branch manager of the store when it opens next month.

He told the Post: “We’ve been doing everything from building the racking to getting the stock sorted and priced.

“It’s been hard work getting the building back up and running, there’s been some repair work on the roof, the escalators and the lift wasn’t working.

“It’s going to be cheap, there’s nothing that we don’t do and even if you come in here and you don’t want anything I’m sure you’ll walk out with something.

“You either love it or you hate it, and if you love rummaging it’s the perfect store for you. “We’re talking clothing, rugs, bedding, cleaning chemicals, toiletries, gardening items, pet food, kids toys anything you need.” The company is set to create 10 full-time and two part-time jobs as part of its Mansfield expansion, with recruitment now “about halfway there”. Andrew Clarke owns of the company and he expects there to be “a buzz” on opening day. He told the Post: “Everything we get we can guarantee the price will be cheaper than 50 percent its market value.

“We’re getting more and more companies selling us their stock and this is either because they’ve had excess stock due to the Covid-19 pandemic or because it’s gone out of season.”

If you come in here and you don’t want anything I’m sure you’ll walk out with something.
