Figures don’t add up for road closure

-

WHERE does Mr Roskins (Saturday’s Letters) get his figures from with his absurd claims about many accidents and serious speeding on the Embankment?

There are several websites worth looking at to verify the true picture. One is https://www.crashmap.co.uk/ and looking at this there is no evidence of serious issues at the Embankment.

The website shows flags for reported accidents over a 21-year period to June 2020 and there were ZERO serious or fatal accidents on the Embankment in that period.

The site shows a mere three slight accidents on Embankment road in 21 years. For most of this period the speed limit at the Embankment would I presume have been higher than the current 20 mph.

It certainly is madness to close the Embankment completely and cause extra traffic problems and expense elsewhere when the evidence does not justify it.

The Embankment road is so wide and with so much grass space which cyclists seem to prefer to the actual road.

I would also recommend that people email Cllr Adele Williams expressing views against the ridiculous scheme. I do not think the Embankment even comes in the top 30 most important road matters that the council should be doing but generally are not.

If the nanny state Nottingham City Council are really worried about seemingly non-existent dangers on the Embankment then maybe they should instead consider installing speed cameras and or a few road humps or chicanes but please do not close the road completely.
