A POPULAR village pub and restaurant will reopen next Thursday under new ownership – and with a makeover.

The Bottle and Glass in Harby is wellknown for its food and friendly service, as well as its own micro-brewery.

New co-owner James Kirby, who also owns property development company Stirlin, bought the pub with a friend and business acquaintance.

An outdoor food menu and extensive drinks selection await at the pub, which is 13 miles from Newark and ten miles from Lincoln and is easily reachable by the Sustrans cycle route.

James and his family have been frequent visitors to the pub for many years.

He said: “The acquisition has provided a wonderful opportunity to venture into the hospitality sector, as we approach an end to what has been an incredibly challenging period.

“With cause for optimism, I believe this is exactly the right time to invest into the sector and I am delighted to be able to invest in such an exceptional pub.”

With the help of local interior designers and tradesmen, the pub has been given a makeover over the last six weeks to improve the outside area.

The interior is also getting a revamp ready for the next stage of reopening in May.

James reassured: “A critical element of the refurbishment brief was to capture and safeguard the traditional charm and character of the pub that is loved by many.

“The pub will remain under the same management and we are retaining the existing team of skilled and passionate staff.

“Our aim is to continue to build upon the pub’s fantastic reputation, while enhancing the offering and facilities for our customers.”

Previous owner Valerie Hope said: “The Bottle and Glass was the last acquisition of The Wig and Mitre Pub Group and it has brought us much pleasure. We especially enjoyed developing the pub and building the microbrewery.

“It has been difficult coming to the decision to sell, but we are thrilled and excited for what, we are certain, will be a brilliant refurbishment. James has an eye for the future and is committed to our team that have helped us to build the reputation that the pub enjoys today.”

Manager Daniel Woodhouse said: “I am delighted that James has taken ownership of the pub – his passion and expertise assures me that the pub in excellent hands and I am excited for its promising future.

“The team and I are eager to welcome our customers back and hopefully see plenty of new faces. We have put in a lot of work over the past few months to ensure that we can offer the best possible experience to our customers when we reopen, while importantly adhering to Government guidance.

“Customers can enjoy a delicious new food menu that has been created by our talented chefs and an extended selection of drinks, as well as improved facilities and refurbished outdoor areas with added seating, covers, heaters and ambient lighting.

“We are also in the process of planning a new venture which we’re looking forward to announcing very soon.”
