Pointless proliferation of parking permits

-

IT seems that Councillor Battlemuch is still determined to force resident permit schemes on to many more hundreds of houses in Wollaton – possibly affecting over 1,500 people. I have just seen a flimsy notice recently attached to lampposts on Parkside. Full details of the extensive proposed scheme can be seen at www.nottinghamtraffweb.co.uk/consult/main. html.

I regularly visit friends in the area and although the part immediately outside the entrance to Wollaton Park can get busy the houses close by all have extensive off-road parking so rarely see any problems except when special events take place. And after yellow lines were added immediately outside the park any issues are not that great.

I wonder if Councillor Battlemuch has bothered to personally witness the parking for himself? If so, then it defies logic why he wants to also put parking restrictions 365 days a year from 8am till 8pm on no less than 20 other roads nearby besides Parkside.

Most of the other roads NEVER get issues. My friends who live on two other roads say they do not think it is justified at all.

The minority of selfish residents demanding permit schemes are incredibly short-sighted. It will devalue their houses. I know several areas in Nottingham where it is now causing far worse issues than they thought they were solving.

Does Councillor Battlemuch enjoy wasting significant sums of taxpayers’ money on schemes that are not needed? Is it his aim to eventually have 100 percent of houses in his ward with parking permits irrespective of whether it is wanted or needed? I would not be surprised if immediately after the 2023 local elections the council suddenly announce that they will be charging £200 per permit.

If anyone wants to raise objections to try and stop this madness then they can email Traffic.management@nottinghamcity.gov.uk no later than tomorrow (April 20), mentioning reference TMP 7369. It’s also worth emailing Councillor Battlemuch directly too with your future voting intentions.

Overall, it had an air of loyalty and support to the Queen about it.

I had the honour of meeting the Duke in Zimbabwe at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Harare in 1991. I recall him taking the time to speak with as many as possible which, along with his sense of humour and encouragement, I am sure will be affectionately remembered by everyone who was there and beyond.
