Don’t let them take voters for granted

- Keith Langley Nottingham

TINA Archer’s letter (“Pointless proliferation of parking permits”, Opinion, April 19) is on a subject anyone running a car should take heed from as lots of towns and cities have either introduced similar schemes, or they are about to!

For example parts of London and Leicester have had such regulations for several years.

Parking permit regulations are slowly creeping into a postcode near you!

It’s part of a sneaky plan by the authorities to get poorer members of society to give up driving their cars.

Of course, it makes sense to reduce the car population by a least 10 million vehicles. There are bona fide means to achieve that target, but penalising the motorist in the format Tina mentions in her letter is outrageous.

This is yet another illustration showing our elected representatives taking their voters for granted – a foolish stance, as many councillors are now rendered unelectable.

linked with the legend of Robin Hood. Standard Hill is, of course, where King Charles raised his standard to start the English Civil War.

There is so much a student could learn about history on a trip to Nottingham. The Crusades, Robin Hood, The English Civil War, the destruction of Nottingham Castle. However, if Nottingham is to become a staycation site we must cater to adults.

Nottingham is world famous for its pubs. The Trip to Jerusalem, The Salutation and The Bell are among the most famous in the world. Added to this is an undiscovered gem: The Roundhouse. It is uniquely placed on Standard Hill, the symbolic start of the English Civil War. Not only that The Roundhouse has an amphitheatre next door. This is the ideal location for parents to bring their children during the school holidays.

Here we can showcase English history, from the Crusades, Robin

Hood, the start of the English Civil War and the destruction of Nottingham Castle.

Apart from the historical perspective to educate the children, why not have a 2021 staycation in Nottingham to celebrate English pubs?

Already we have some of the most famous taverns in the world. If that is not enough to entice tourists to the city why not create replicas of other famous pubs? Let us build replicas of the Rovers Return, the Queen Vic and the Woolpack in the city centre.

For those missing the Spanish Costas, let us create a Benidorm bar. For music lovers let us create a replica Cavern where the Beatles began.

During 2021 there will be something for everyone in a visit to Nottingham,

To me it sounds like the perfect place for a 2021 staycation visit.

I am sure that your readers can think of better ideas. Let us hear them.
