A DRINK-DRIVER was holding a can of Stella Artois when he was arrested.

A concerned lorry driver boxed in Vaclav Buchla and called police after becoming concerned by his erratic driving, a court heard.

The truck driver was following a car which almost hit other vehicles before pulling in at Euro Garage on the A1 Great North Road, North Muskham, on April 23.

The caller blocked Buchla’s car and described the driver as being “out of his face” and unable to stand up.

Buchla also urinated in front of his vehicle.

Nottingham Magistrates’ Court heard that Buchla, 41, of Old Hexthorpe, Hexthorpe, Doncaster, got back in his car and moved it Police arrived and saw him slouched on the driver’s side holding a can of

Stella with the car key in the ignition.

In court on Thursday, he pleaded guilty to drink-driving with 101 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over the limit of 35.

He also admitted possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The court wass told that the reason he started drinking was because his wife told him about a health matter. She was sick of the way be was behaving and he was upset about this.

The car was consequently sold by his wife for £1,000.

He has since stopped smoking cannabis and drinking four cans every day.

He asked District Judge Leo Pyle: “Give me a chance.”

The judge told him he would, but added: “You have to understand you are driving a motor vehicle on the road.

“You are driving that motor vehicle well in excess of two and a half times over the legal limit and you were driving it on one of the busiest roads in the country.”

Buchla was banned from driving for two years, fined £80 for possessing cannabis, given a 12-month community order for drink-driving and up to 20 rehabilitation activity days. He must pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £90.
