STARS BOOKED AND WAITING FOR GOVERNMENT’S OK

NOTTINGHAM’S Royal Concert Hall and Theatre Royal are getting ready to reopen.

Venue director Peter Ireson says: “We’ve worked hard to ensure this reopening season really lights up our stages once more, with all the star names and big shows we know our audiences are so eager to return to once again.

“It will be a celebration of everything we hold most dear – coming together to enjoy music, and laughter, and that sense of awe only a live performance can bring.

“There’s nothing like it, and we’ve all really missed it.

“We are champing at the bit to get the doors open once again. Everyone will be welcome!”

The first events should go ahead in mid-june subject to the OK from the Government.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s roadmap out lockdown gives Monday, May 17, as the earliest date that performances and sporting events can resume, but this third stage of the lockdown easing states that performances will have smaller crowds, adding that larger performances and sporting events indoors with a of capacity of 1,000 or half full (whichever is smaller) will be allowed. With this in mind, the first “welcome back” event at the Royal Concert Hall is on Friday, June 11.

Two socially distanced comedy nights are planned. On Friday and Saturday, June 11 and 12, when panto favourite Ben Nickless will entertain with his show Big Night Out. Tickets for the 60-minute show are on sale now. On Sunday, June 13, a concert by all seven Kanneh-mason siblings is planned.

The Nottingham family range in age from 11 to 24 years old and include Sheku, who played at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Dance fans can look forward to a visit from Rambert2 dance company on Wednesday and Thursday, June 16 and 17. Solve-along-a-murdershe-wrote, April in Paris, and Opera North’s Fidelio follow. Once social distancing restrictions are lifted, currently scheduled for Monday, June 21, the season will get into full swing. You can catch David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny from Wednesday, July 7, Caitlin Moran on Friday, July 9, and Jimmy Carr on July 27 and 29, and September 21.
