Taylor not ready yet

That’s not one of Carvalho’s strengths and Garcia said he needed “a greater defensive balance”, when assessing his game for Almeria.

Reds defender Joe Worrall got fans talking when he slipped in what may well have been a throwaway comment about Carvalho when speaking to a supporter over a video call.

The centre-back said: “It will be interesting because we’ve got Carvalho. Joao’s got to come back from his loan. He’s somebody who could be massive for Forest in the future.”

Meanwhile, Hughton has said he has followed the progress of Carvalho and the rest of Forest’s players out on loan.

“I have kept tabs on them,” he said. “Because of our schedule, what I haven’t been able to do is visually watch the amount of games on tape as I would like to.

“But I’m fully up to speed on their performances and games they’re playing. All of them will come into our thinking over the next few weeks and couple of months, as regards what we want to do come the summer and next season.”

MANAGER Chris Hughton has been keeping tabs on the progress of Nottingham Forest youngster Dale Taylor – but says the teenager isn’t yet ready for the step up to the first team.

The teenage forward signed a professional deal with the Reds in December, having initially made the move to the City Ground from Northern Irish side Linfield last summer.

He has made a good impression since his switch, picking up plenty of game time for Forest’s Under-18s and going on to play for the Under-23s.

Last month, he caught the eye with a superb individual goal for the latter in a 2-1 defeat against Cardiff City.

In a match played at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground, Taylor picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and skipped through a number of challenges before unleashing a fierce shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Hughton has not been afraid to give young players such as Alex Mighten and Will Swan, as well as Manchester United loanee James Garner, a chance this season.

But he says patience is needed when it comes to 17-year-old Taylor.

“My initial gut feeling is he’s probably not quite ready to be around the first-team, only because he’s a younger one,” Hughton told the Nottingham Post.

“I have seen him. We had a training game with the 23s and I saw him play at Notts County’s ground.

“But he’s a younger one and we’d probably need to see a fair bit more of him.

“It’s certainly good to see any young players doing well, because as a club, we have to show that interest and have to show there is hopefully that pathway.”
