Maybe we all need our eyes tested on roads
the roads of private cars!
It’s a foregone conclusion that, Andrew Adonis (Lord Adonis) would write a whimsical letter to the Prime Minister supporting HS2, as lots of Conservatives want the entire HS2 extravaganza scrapped. This is possibly why the Government response was “noncommittal”. Also, Lord Adonis is trying to save face, as HS2 was to be his legacy.
Councillors and people representing commerce keep harping on that if HS2 doesn’t come to Toton we are all doomed. Their reaction is puzzling as Toton Sidings had been a caravanserai for freight trains over umpteen decades!
If they believe what they say, why did councillors and those with commercial interests let Toton Sidings lose its importance by allowing it to grass over and fall foul to vandals?
This is a classic example of elected personnel not being trusted! If the HS2 hub comes to Toton, how can readers be reassured that it won’t go into decline the instant the authorities come up with another vanity project? And that HS2 doesn’t end up like the railways of yesteryear, closed down, with its tracks ripped-up? Nigel J Starbuck

ON recent shopping trips to my local supermarket, I had to ask whether we all need to go through Dominic Cummings’ actions in Durham in respect to acclimatising to the roads.
In 30 minutes, I saw people parking their cars on chevrons near a zebra crossing, an incident of undertaking, someone driving against the direction of traffic, not to mention that a lot of motorists are unable to park within a parking space. One must also ask whether Covid-19 has affected or caused memory loss when you see so many motorists failing to address the basic road signs or markings. Tony Morris
