Fans divided over fate of arch rivals

- By MARK WHILEY

IT’S the question on the lips of almost every Nottingham Forest fan - do they want to see bitter rivals Derby County relegated from the Championship?

While there is nothing riding on the Reds’ final day clash against Preston North End, it will be a very different story up the A52 at Pride Park, where the Rams face relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Following Rotherham United’s goalless draw against Luton Town on Tuesday, Derby’s fate is in their own hands.

A win over the Owls will keep Wayne Rooney’s side in the second tier and relegated Rotherham and Wednesday, with bottom side Wycombe Wanderers needing a mathematical miracle to stay up.

However, anything less than a win will open the door to Rotherham, who visit Cardiff City.

Meanwhile, a defeat, coupled with a draw or less for the Millers, will keep the Owls in the division.

Here’s what Forest fans have been saying on social media.

@halftimepies: Agreed, even though I don’t think you will go down I’d love to see #dcfc in LG1 next season but not out of business, however Mel’s actions over the last few years have led to resentment from a lot of clubs & you fans are left holding the proverbial baby, financially as well

@Nffc_trentend: Despite all the banter, I genuinely hope #DCFC stay up. I’m pleased it’s gone down to the last day, but that’s enough now. Most of my good friends are #DCFCFANS and we all know from experience League 1 isn’t pleasant.

@Paramore1979: I agree that League 1 isn’t fun and I know a few Derby fans too. They will be gutted to go down to League 1. However, I will find it hilarious and will give back all the stick they gave me. I cannot wait for their relegation to be confirmed.

@19welshy: I’m in a similar position but recall laughter and baiting when we went down so I’ve no issue watching them go down I also love the Derby game but can do without the anxiety twice a season praying not to lose to the. btw they deserve relegation on form

@Glynbonser: I want then down! And I want them to stay down!

@REDSTU1986: I hope they drop in the most painful way possible. Goal difference. Not an ounce of sympathy for such a poorly run football club. Gave it large this time last season.

@_mrjoey: I too wouldn’t want #dcfc to get relegated. But I’m more than happy to see them in a relegation fight every year especially with it going down to the last game of the season. #nffc
