Arrest after stabbing in middle of day

POLICE have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with a stabbing in broad daylight in Nottingham.

Officers were called to St Stephen’s Road in Sneinton at around 1pm yesterday after a man was reported to have been stabbed in the back.

A cordon was set up and searches carried out before a 19-year-old man was arrested in Newark Avenue on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

The force said a knife has also been recovered following a search.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area at the time to get in touch as soon as possible.

Detective Inspector Kayne Rukas, of Nottingham­shire Police, said: “This is a shocking violent attack that happened in broad daylight but residents can be reassured that this is an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.

“Patrols have been upped in Sneinton in order to provide reassuranc­e and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak with officers on patrol or call 101.

“Officers did an excellent job to

quickly arrive at the scene, secure the area and conduct searches in order to locate and arrest a suspect.

“The victim is not believed to have life-threatenin­g injuries.

“I am now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Any informatio­n you have, no matter how insignific­ant a detail you may think it is, could go some way to help us solve who did this.”
