MILLER HOPES TO HAVE EARNED TRUST OF BURCHNALL

ON-LOAN DEFENDER MAKES AN IMPACT IN NOTTS WINS

CALVIN Miller hopes he has earned manager Ian Burchnall’s trust at Notts County.

The on-loan defender has played really well in the Magpies’ last two matches, against Sutton United and Barnet, having been restored to the team.

He came alive in the second half of the 4-1 win against the Bees on Saturday, creating a goal for Ruben Rodrigues and having a massive hand in the third goal, when his cross was turned in by a home defender.

Having also helped Notts to a 3-2 victory against Sutton United at Meadow Lane, Miller says he is delighted to be back on the pitch.

“I’m extremely happy because it came to the point when the gaffer first came in that I’d played two games and then I was out of the squad for a bit,” he said.

“I was quite hurt by that, but I just kept my performances in training really high, stuck to what I do, got back in the team against Sutton and I played really well. Now I’ve played well again (against Barnet).

“I just want to maintain that, kick on and, hopefully, the gaffer knows I can play wing-back and trusts me there, so I can try to rack up as many games as I can.”

Miller insists it wasn’t difficult to maintain a positive frame of mind while he was out of the team.

“I just surround myself with positive people and I feel this squad has got a good core of boys where we’ll stick together,” he added.

“There was never a point when I felt that I was just going to shy away or get upset about it, I just wanted to keep working hard and for me personally if I can do that then I was sure I’d get the opportunity at some point.

“I had to be ready so I made sure I was ready in training all the time.”

Victories against Sutton and Barnet have lifted Notts back into the National League play-offs places as they head into tonight’s away encounter with mid-table Maidenhead United seventh in the table.

Asked what the Magpies could achieve this season, Miller said: “We’re just going to keep kicking on.

“We’re in a good frame of mind just now so, hopefully, we will go into games with the mindset of winning as many games as possible.”
