THE owner of a hair and beauty salon in Carlton says she has been left feeling “sick” after an attempted burglary just weeks after she reopened.

Hayley Sweet, of Thorneywood, has owned the Strands Hair and Beauty salon in Carlton Hill for the past 16 years, but says she has never once been targeted by thieves in the past.

However, just before 2am on Wednesday, a resident who lives above the salon called the police having felt the building “shaking” following an attempt to gain entry through the window.

Ms Sweet said: “There is a girl who lives above and she felt the whole building shaking.

“She got up and phoned the police.

The window must have been hit about five to 10 times.

“I do not know any hairdresser in the land that leaves money or valuables in their salon overnight. I do not stock electrical items.

“It just made me feel sick because what has been gained out of this?

“The community up here is really good. Everyone came over to me asking if I was OK. I felt quite emotional.

“We’ve been open for five weeks. We’ve had a few mad weeks but we are just panning out now.

“I’m just speechless, really. Where is the common sense?”

Nottinghamshire Police says officers responded to the call.

A car believed to have been involved in the incident was seen by officers.

Two men, aged 41 and 46, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary. They remain in custody.

Inspector Chris Pearson added: “The suspects tried to break into this business by smashing their way through the window but were unsuccessful after several attempts.

“Officers swiftly arrived and arrested two suspects within minutes of this incident being reported.

“This type of crime has a significant impact on communities but I can reassure members of the public that we remain committed to tackling and reducing burglary and targeting those who break into businesses as well as people’s homes.

“I’d like to reassure our local businesses that the force treats commercial burglary and theft very seriously and will continue to deal robustly with anyone believed to be involved in such crimes and work hard to secure justice for victims.

“Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing. While we have made two arrests in connection with it I’d urge anyone with information which may help us with our investigation to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 40 of 12 May 2021, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
