Inside Nottingham’s most versatile café from afternoon tea to espresso martinis

THEA CAFFEA LOUNGE AND COCKTAIL BAR HAS REOPENED ITS DOORS AND HAS A BRAND NEW VIBE, CHANGING FROM A TEAROOM DURING THE DAY TO A CHILLED-OUT BAR AT NIGHT

-

AFTERNOON tea isn’t something usually associated with bar culture.

Although they’re both something of a British tradition, they’re very different and don’t tend to coexist - especially not in the same venue.

However,

Thea Caffea Lounge and Cocktail Bar

in Nottingham is proudly providing a stunning space that can offer both of these and much more, appealing to so many different groups of people.

The popular café caused widespread dismay when it closed its doors two years ago, but it made a grand return earlier this year with brand new owners and a brand new look.

Now family-run by Nottingham locals Reese and Gina, Thea Caffea Lounge and Cocktail Bar has been more than welcomed back into the community and offers an amazingly versatile space for anyone to enjoy. Since reopening, it has been welcoming back customers old and new, and the team can’t wait to encourage even more people to come along.

Still a quintessential tearoom during the day, customers can come along and enjoy the classics - from homemade scones and cakes, to a selection of fragrant teas and artisan coffee, along with several brunch and lunch options.

However, on Friday and Saturday nights, the tea is swapped for tequila as it becomes a much more chilled-out bar and lounge area.

Also now boasting a stunning outdoor garden seating space, which is perfect for summer gatherings, Thea Caffea Lounge and Cocktail Bar is the ideal place for anyone wanting to meet up with family and friends and celebrate the lockdown restrictions lifting.

It’s even offering a free glass of prosecco to all customers that come in on Monday, July 19, also known as Freedom Day what more could anyone want?

We’ve found out more about each unique side of the café and bar, and what customers can expect when they come in.

Thea Caffea was known and loved for its vintage interior and quaint British afternoon tea before it closed a couple of years ago.

However, customers old and new will still be able to come in and enjoy all of these aspects, and so much more.

From the classic afternoon tea with dainty crust-less sandwiches, scones and cakes, to light lunches and salads, there’s something that everyone will enjoy.

There’s also an extensive range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options on offer, as well as a selection of wines, beers and cocktails.

What’s more, customers will either be able to enjoy their meal or drinks inside in the dining room and take in the beautiful vintage decor, or in the more informal outside-in bistro area - and they can sit even outside in the brand new stunning garden space, which is perfect for summer days.

And, because British weather is just that unpredictable, the outdoor area can be covered overhead, with space heaters dotted everywhere.

To celebrate lockdown restrictions being lifted, Thea Caffea Lounge and Cocktail Bar is offering every customer £5 off their afternoon tea for the whole of July, making it just £14.95 instead of £19.95 - so there’s no better time to come and enjoy your favourite treats.

As well as the free glass of prosecco on arrival for every customer on Monday, July 19, each customer will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win afternoon tea with prosecco for six people.

LOUNGE AND COCKTAIL BAR

Whilst the café will have all the same traditions as it did before its closure, the biggest change is the addition of a brand-new space to relax and have a drink in the evenings.

On Friday and Saturday nights from 6pm, the quaint tearoom is replaced by a much more chilled out bar.

Originally opened as somewhat of an experiment, the bar has been hugely popular and is now a permanent part of the weekend.

Customers can come in and pick their poison from an impressive menu of beers, wines and cocktails. One of the most popular drinks right now, the espresso martini, even comes in six different flavours, including amaretto and caramel.

And, if months of lockdown has you craving for a boogie, there are even plans to turn the formal dining area into a huge dancefloor by night , complete with a DJ booth.

A free glass of prosecco awaits every customer on the night of Friday, July 23, as well as automatic entry to win a £100 bar tab if you’re feeling lucky.
