A NEW talent show arrives in the city tomorrow night to showcase some of county’s best up and coming performers and entertainers.

Nottinghamshire’s Got Talent at the Metronome in the city centre will feature singers, dancers, magicians, and comedians putting on a show.

All profits will go to When You Wish Upon A Star – the Nottingham charity that supports children with life-threatening illnesses.

Guest judges will include Sandra Martin from Gogglebox, Rio Saylan (a reality star from First Dates), Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Stu Arnold, Nottingham Playhouse artistic director Adam Penford and Sheriff of Nottingham Harminder Singh Dua.

The event will be jointly hosted by founder Owen Brindley and Notts TV presenter Owen Shipton, Owen, 22, from Bilborough, has a condition called branchiootorenal syndrome, which affects his ears, kidneys and neck. As a child Owen had a dream to become a professional entertainer.

With his disabilities he thought this dream would never be realised but help came when When You Wish Upon A Star granted his wish to be a Butlins redcoat in Skegness for a day.

Owen was soon performing on Britain’s Got Talent and is now a resident DJ presenting two weekly shows, Monday Madness LIVE With DJ Owen on FMB Radio and Midweek Madness With DJ Owen every Wednesday on Nottinghamshire YMCA Digital.

He said: “Nottinghamshire’s Got Talent will be the county’s biggest talent competition. This will be a way of showcasing your skills in a fun and exciting way and also raise you up and give you your chance to shine.”

Owen was recently nominated for the Disability Positive Role Model at the National Diversity Awards.

He sees Nottinghamshire’s Got Talent as his way of thanking When You Wish Upon A Star and providing a platform for the wealth of talent in Nottinghamshire.

Judge Sandra Martin said: “I’ve been a judge plenty of times, but nothing excites me as much as Nottinghamshire’s Got Talent. It’s a show like no other which I love working on.

“You’ve got to have a real sense of humour to be a judge on NGT, which I’m happy to say I do.

“It’s about people who have talent, but want an extra ‘oompf’ put into their life. As a judge you’re doing your bit to help their career, and I find that so important.”

Rio Saylan (also known as OTT) is a singer-songwriter.

Rio was born in the east end of London .. and spent her first five years in a prefab right on the spot where the 2012 Olympic Millennium stadium is.

Rio realised quite late in life her potential for writing when she wrote the eulogy for her father when he passed. From there, her writing has gone from strength to strength and Rio also loves to give back and volunteers as a street pastor in Nottingham. Tomorrow night, doors open at 6pm for VIP members and 6.30pm for general admission. The show starts from 6.40pm
