Garner return such a timely boost for Reds
NOTTINGHAM Forest have confirmed James Garner as their fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
The Manchester United midfielder returns for a second spell at the City Ground, with the Reds having fought off tough competition to secure his signature.
Garner joins Chris Hughton’s side on a season-long loan, following on from the arrivals of goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, attacking midfielder Philip Zinckernagel and full-back Jordi Osei-tutu.
He made a great impression when he spent the second half of last season with Forest, netting four goals in 20 games, with all but one of those appearances coming in the starting 11.
The Reds have been eager to get the 20-year-old back all summer, but faced a battle to get a deal over the line, amid plenty of other suitors – including Derby County and Stoke City.
Swansea City, Sheffield United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Norwich City and Rangers had also been linked with Garner.
The Reds have been short of options in the centre of the pitch during a dismal start to the season which has left boss Hughton under pressure.
They have Ryan Yates, Jack Colback, Cafu and youngster Tyrese Fornah on the books, with former Bournemouth man Harry Arter among a group told they can search for a new club this summer.
Garner’s arrival comes in time for him to feature in the East Midlands derby against the Rams at Pride Park next Saturday, with a Carabao Cup clash at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.
