Heartbreak at death of young footballer

TRIBUTES have been paid to West Bridgford Colts youth player, Dylan Rich, who passed away after becoming seriously unwell during a football match last Thursday.

The incident took place at the FA Youth Cup match between West Bridgford Colts and Boston United at Regatta Way, Gamston.

West Bridgford Colts released a statement yesterday. It said: “This news has left everyone involved with our club devastated and heartbroke­n. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents Mike & Anna, his sister Lucy & Dylan’s family, friends and teammates.

“The club would like to thank everyone within the Colts and wider football community for the hundreds of heartfelt messages and thoughts that we have received over the past few days.”

Other clubs took to social media to pay their tributes.

Boston United Football Academy said: “Absolutely devastatin­g news following Thursday evening’s FA Youth Cup. We are absolutely heartbroke­n for Dylan, his family, friends and team mates and club. We send our most heartfelt condolence­s. RIP Dylan Rich.”

Basford United FC said: “We are extremely saddened to read of the passing of Dylan Rich. Everybody at Basford United would like to send our heartfelt condolence­s to Dylan’s family, friends and all connected with West Bridgford.”

Notts County FC said: “Our thoughts are with Dylan’s family, friends and team-mates.”

Radford FC added: “A truly devastatin­g update puts football back into perspectiv­e. Our thoughts are with Dylan’s family and all those at West Bridgford.”
