POLICE discovered knives, phones and “white powder residue” when they smashed their way into a house in a morning raid.

They barged through a glass door in West Bridgford just after 8am yesterday. Eight officers, three cars and a van were on the scene.

No illegal weapons or concrete evidence were found, but knives were discovered in one of the rooms.

No arrests were made.

Sergeant James Russ, of Rushcliffe Outreach team, added: “We found knives and five phones in just one of the rooms.

“We also found white powder residues in a Louis Vuitton box.

“We will be carrying out more operations in the Central Avenue area to stop the supply and possession of drugs.”

Residents who spotted the heavy police presence said they were “not surprised”.

Robert Hall, 31, was walking his dog. He said: “I am happy that the police are doing something about it.

“It is not really concerning, nor surprising.

“But it is reassuring to know that police are searching the house if they suspect something.”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, added: “We have got used to seeing police on drug raids around here. “It is becoming more and more of a problem.” They added: “At this point I am just happy that no-one got hurt and it is just a drug raid.

“The neighbours are always concerned about the drug problems in the area.”

Designer John Macaulay, 51, added: “I am very surprised because this is a nice area.

“A lot of families live here and it is concerning that something like this could happen on this road.

“This area is like a village – everyone knows everyone.

“I love it here so I am worried.”
