A COUNCILLOR has been angered by “mindless vandalism” to a defibrillator in Stapleford.

The life-saving piece of equipment has been vandalised and removed from where it formerly stood in Nottingham Road.

Richard Macrae, an independent councillor who represents the Stapleford ward on Broxtowe Borough Council, was notified of what happened on Sunday morning.

He has since told East Midlands Ambulance Service about the vandalism.

And he hit out over the actions of those responsible.

He said: “I got a message off someone telling me it had been broken so I went and had a look for myself.

“It’s been broken open and there is nothing in there.

“I’ve sent a message to East Midlands Ambulance Service to notify them of what’s happened.

“It’s one of those things – it’s completely mindless vandalism. There is absolutely no point in it.

“It’s obviously been vandalised by someone – you can tell that by looking at it.

“There are a lot of defibrillators in Stapleford and I always say let’s have lots of them and hope we never need them. We don’t want to use them but it’s so important that they are there.”

Richard’s wife Donna Macrae has been involved in adding defibrillators to various locations across Stapleford and she was also very disappointed to learn about what had happened.

He added: “Donna said that she is absolutely disgusted by the vandalism that had been carried out.

“It was only yesterday that Donna donated a defibrillator and cabinet to a local pub in Stapleford as she realises the importance of such life-saving equipment.

“This is now the third defibrillator that Donna has been involved in donating in Stapleford.

“The first being at the Co-op on Hickings Lane and the second more recently at the Old Mill Club off Mill Road in Stapleford.”
