BURCHNALL: UNBEATEN MAGPIES ARE STILL HUNGRY TO IMPROVE

IAN Burchnall says Notts County’s players were “frustrated” by their performance against Aldershot Town despite maintaing their unbeaten start to the National League season.

The Magpies secured a 3-2 win over the Shots at the weekend as they moved up to fourth in the table.

But Notts were made to sweat by the visitors who had gone 2-1 ahead in the second half when Corie Andrews scored his second of the game.

Goals from Kyle Cameron and Callum Roberts helped Notts fight back in what was a thrilling National League showdown at Meadow Lane.

And while the fans were rejoicing after an entertaining win, head coach Burchnall revealed the mood inside the dressing room was different.

“The players were a bit frustrated because they want to be better than they were at the weekend,” he said.

“We’re not really satisfied with that as what we want to do. I like that.

“When I walked into the dressing room they were annoyed, they were demanding but that’s a good thing.

“They are putting high demands on themselves and we have to understand the good bits such as the resilience and the three goals.

“We created good chances but, at the same time, they are hungry to be better.”

The win over Aldershot kicked off a run of fixtures that look very favourable for Notts on paper as they look to mount a promotion challenge. Next up is a visit to Weymouth who have enjoyed a fine start to the season themselves and are in the top half of the table.

But Notts approach that clash with a concern hanging over defender Richard Brindley who had to come off at half-time with an ankle injury.

However, he is expected to be fit, while Alex Lacey is also set to be fine for the trip south having suffered a touch of cramp as he made his longawaited return from injury.

Burchnall has a decision to make regarding his formation, too, having made a switch from a 3-5-2 system to 4-3-3, a move which paid dividends.

And central to helping Notts overcome the Shots was the introduction of Kairo Mitchell, who played on the left and was excellent in the second half.

“We were not playing anywhere near close to our best so we made a change to the system,” he said.

“We came from behind and the lads who came on such as Kairo, and Connell Rawlinson, added something to finish the job off.”
