Attack victim was stabbed in chest
HE STAGGERED INTO TAKEAWAY WITH LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES
A COMMUNITY has voiced its shock as a man was left in critical condition after being stabbed twice in the chest in Nottingham city centre.
The victim is currently in hospital and has undergone surgery after for a life-threatening condition following the incident in Mansfield Road.
Police said after the incident the injured man staggered into a takeaway in the road with two puncture wounds in his chest at about 2am on Saturday.
Residents have spoken about the troubles that have been occurring on Mansfield Road and the concerns they have over this most recent attack.
Sherwood resident Mark Camm, 54, who works in financial devices, said: “It’s becoming the norm. It it is quite disturbing and it is so close to home.
“It’s so frequent now I do not particularly react to it like I did.
“It is becoming commonplace. It’s all over the country, not just Nottingham.”
John Medd, a consultant from Sherwood in his late 50s, said: “We seem to be seeing more of it.
“It’s almost like a sign of the times, really. “I just think you hear so many sirens up and down Mansfield Road and Hucknall Road – you often hear the helicopters overhead overnight. “There’s a lot of it about, as they say. “I just hope that it does not become the norm and that if there was enough investment in the police these incidents would not
be as prolific as they are.”
Robert Dawes, 65, of Coalville Street, off Mansfield Road, has called for more police.
He said: “It’s not very good – you never know what can happen.
“It seems a common occurrence.”
Officers provided first aid at the scene while the man was unresponsive but breathing. He remained in hospital in a serious condition.
Artur Semeniec, 46, of Peel Street, said: “This is the second time someone has been stabbed on the street.
“I don’t know for what. I feel a bigger danger than before. It’s scary.”
Mansfield Road resident John Marraffa, 56, said: “I have not a clue. I have not heard anything or seen anything.
“I woke up this morning and saw all this lot.
“It’s crazy. It is not the first time something like this has happened – especially on Mansfield Road. It’s getting worse than how it used to be.”
A 31-year-old woman, a solicitor from Bulwell who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I hope it’s not a reflection of the good work Nottingham has done to kind of reduce gun and knife crime. “Hopefully it is a one-off.” Police are currently investigating the incident.
Detective Sergeant Louise Bradford, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The victim has stumbled into the shop after suffering two life-threatening stab wounds, in an attack believed to have occurred further up Mansfield Road.
“Officers quickly provided first aid at the scene to stem the bleeding, but he is still in a critical condition in hospital.
“Our focus is to establish what has happened to the victim before he managed to get to the takeaway for help.
“Officers are in the area working with local residents and businesses to gather information, retrieve vital CCTV footage and provide reassurance to those living and working locally.
“We take knife crime extremely seriously and are committed to stopping those that carry knives and offensive weapons.”
Polcie cordoned off the area around the taweaway and surrounding premises on Mansfield Road while they carried out investigations. The cordon was removed yesterday afternoon.
