ALMOST 40 acres of land in Bramcote has been put up for sale to pay for a new secondary school.

The site could accommodate around 500 new homes.

Proceeds from the sale of the 39.9-acre site to the east of Coventry Lane at the northern edge of Bramcote, will fund the construction of a new school on the site of neighbouring Bramcote College.

The land is being sold by Savills Nottingham on behalf of the White Hills Park Trust, which runs schools including Alderman White School, John Clifford School, Springbank Academy and the Florence Nightingale Academy.

Dr Paul Heery, White Hills Park CEO, said: “We have worked closely with Nottinghamshire County Council to secure the necessary agreements and can now focus on bringing about our vision of a high-quality, fit-for-purpose new school building.

“The fortunes of Bramcote College have been transformed in recent years, with rising student achievement and growing numbers – the new build will secure that progress and provide a school in which the whole community can take pride.”

Neil Gamble, the county council’s group manager property asset management, confirmed: “It has been agreed that the funding for the upgrade of the school will come from the sale of the land off Coventry Lane.”

He added: “The county council continues to work with White Hills Park Trust to enable the rebuilding of Bramcote College.

“The trust is leading on both the sale of land and the proposals for the new school.”

Ann Taylor, director in the Savills East Midlands development team, said: “As part of Broxtowe Borough Council’s Local Plan, the land has been taken out of the green belt on the proviso that a number of conditions will be met by the developer. These will include creating pedestrian and cycle routes linking to the newly developed school, enhancing existing bus routes, and providing enhanced Green Infrastructure corridors which will link urban areas with local green spaces.

“The new additions will further improve and enhance the facilities for new and existing residents.

“This sale represents a fantastic opportunity for a developer to purchase a prominent and highly desirable development site in a sought-after suburb.”
