A STAPLEFORD family have been left “incredibly numb” by the death of dad-of-three in a crash.

Martin Glynn Wood was heading back to his family in Skegness when he was involved in a three-vehicle crash on August 25.

The 36-year-old was travelling along the A158 near Hagworthingham, Lincolnshire, with his son, Jordan, back to his wife Hayley and daughters Jasmine and Savannah at their caravan.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His sister, Marie Blainey, 37, said: “I had police come to my home to inform me of what had happened.

“My first thoughts were ‘oh my God I’ve got to get to Hayley and the kids.’

“I was then told they were being brought home.

“I then had to go and tell my other two brothers and my sister the devastating news. This is by far one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.”

Jordan was kept overnight at Queen’s Medical Centre with minor injuries, but is now “thankfully OK”.

“Since that terrible day we have all been incredibly numb,” Marie continued.

“It’s the only way to describe it. You don’t feel as though it is real but then we have to plan his funeral. It honestly feels like we are living our lives in some sort of movie plot. Our mum died in March 2020 and our dad died in October and now we have lost our brother. It really is rubbish – you couldn’t make it up.”

Originally from Long Eaton, Martin moved to Ilkeston before settling in Stapleford eight years ago, working as a painter and decorator.

Marie described him as “one of the most caring, nicest people you could ever meet”.

“I know people say that all the time but he really was. When he smiled he smiled with his whole face. His eyes were amazing and he had a cheeky smile too.

“He got along with everyone.”

Adding their tributes, sister Gemma said he was the “nicest person anyone could ever meet”, while older brothers Ady and Stig said that he “always stuck by me no matter what” and “life would never be the same without you”. Marie set up a fundraising page to help pay for the funeral, and over £4,500 has been raised.

“I can’t express how happy and overwhelmed we all are that we have already reached our target,” she said. “It’s actually gone over now and is rising all the time. “We are all so thankful to each and every person that has donated. “It will help so much and means Hayley and the rest of Martin’s family do not have to worry about the cost of the funeral.”
