DOZENS of new jobs could be created under multi-million-pound proposals for a Lidl supermarket and 62 new homes on a disused plastics factory site in Bestwood.

Lidl GB and local housing developer Mypad have unveiled their vision for the former Chronos Richardson works off Arnold Road and Belconnen Road next to Nottingham City Hospital.

The Lidl is expected to create 40 jobs and 50 houses and 12 apartments are set to be built.

Two separate planning applications will be submitted to Nottingham City Council. Lidl and Mypad have launched a website under a public consultation inviting discussion on both sets of plans.

Lidl’s Regional Head of Property, Dominic Bryan, said: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new Lidl store in Bestwood and serving our fresh, quality and incredibly good value produce which shoppers across the country have come to love.

“We’re also excited to be working alongside an experienced, respected local housing provider like Mypad on the wider proposals for the site.

“Our plans are set to create up to 40 jobs which would be fantastic for the local community, and we hope that as many people as possible are able to join us for this ‘virtual’ public consultation.

“We look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”

Tom Spink, director at Mypad, said: “It’s great to be working with Lidl on the proposals for a new store and homes in Bestwood.

“This project will revitalise a key local site, delivering new houses and apartments, including affordable properties, at a time when people are looking to move somewhere new more than ever before.

“We’re really proud of the housing developments we’ve worked on in the past and are committed to creating homes – communities really that we ourselves would like to live in.

“The proposals also represent an exciting opportunity to breathe new life into a site that has been left disused for more than 10 years, ensuring it once again plays an important role in the local area. We’re really keen to hear what people living near the site make of our plans and would encourage anyone with a view to have their say by visiting our consultation website and completing the online feedback form.”

The Lidl is expected to include a bakery. A car park with 120 spaces will also be provided.

Mypad recently received planning permission for a £13m housing development at the old Beeston Maltings site.

It has led social housing development which has transformed the old Spices restaurant in Wollaton Vale.

And it was reported in July that work was set to begin on the £2.5m transformation of a long-time vacant builders’ yard in Stapleford.
