A CONCERNED mother has been trying to get a problem with damp in her flat sorted out for nearly five years without success.

Joanne Padgett, 28, of Holly Avenue, Carlton, says she is concerned for her children’s health by the damp, which has caused patches of mould to appear.

She said: “I moved in five years ago and after a year of living here the damp started. It’s been ongoing since then.

She said the has tried to clean off the mould without success.

“I’ve tried all sorts but it doesn’t come off,” she added. “The problem has got worse, it is really bad.”

Joanne claims there are damp patches in the children’s bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.

The mother has been in contact with Jigsaw Homes, the housing association which lets out the flat, but says nothing has been done.

She said: “I’ve been in contact since 2016 and the problem has only gotten worse.

“An inspector came out to the house and said he wanted to change all the walls, toilet and sink.

“I called up about the inspection, and they said they would only do one wall.

“It is really bad in the children’s room, so they sleep with me now as I don’t want them to get poorly.”

Miss Padgett claims that Jigsaw Homes have been unsupportive whenever concerns have been raised.

She added: “I keep telling the company about my children’s health.

“They’re not doing anything about it. It is not fair and I just want it sorted.”

Mathew George, Operations Director of Asset Management at Jigsaw Homes said: “While we are unable to comment on this individual case, we are committed to maintaining all of our homes to a high standard.

“We make it easy for our customers to contact us to book repair appointments and we carry out periodic property visits to check on the condition of the homes that we let.”

Miss Padgett says she is pursuing legal action over the situation.
