Neighbours stunned by £100k cannabis plant find in house
POLICE DISCOVERED OPERATION IN ROOMS OF TERRACED HOUSE
SURPRISED neighbours said they ‘would never have dreamed in a million years’ a house would contain cannabis after police discovered £100,000 of plants.
Officers said they found 139 plans after being called to a terraced home in Barber Street, Eastwood. Senior inspectors said the plants had been growing in the two bedrooms of the property, the living room and loft.
But the news has unsettled neighbours who live down the road.
Retired Irene Morris, 76, said she’d been left upset and that she’d never seen anything which looked suspicious.
“I’ve only lived here a year, this seems like a nice and quiet area and, as long as I’ve been here, it’s been lovely,” the Eastwood resident said.
“I can’t believe it, everyone looks so friendly but then again you can’t go by looks.
“You don’t want those sort of things down the street.
“You wouldn’t dream in a million years that was going to happen down here.”
The grow was taken apart by Nottinghamshire Police on Monday morning and officers said growing equipment had been “deactivated”.
Civil servant Helen Whitelam, 42, who has lived in Eastwood for 10 months, said: “We never even saw anybody go in and out of that house, I didn’t anyway. “So I’m really quite surprised, this is a really quiet, nice road, so to have this on our road is quite upsetting. “We only moved here in December. “It was really unsettling for my children, the police were here [on the street] all night long.” Mrs Whitelam, a mum-of-four who lives in Barber Street, said a house in the street had been guarded by police.
But she said she was a big fan of the area, saying: “We are so glad we moved here.”
A 58-year-old man of Springfield Avenue spoke of the scale of the reported cannabis haul, saying it was “quite a lot of plants for a little terraced house”.
Speaking of his shock, the catering worker said: “Bloomin’ heck, like I say my wife told me about it. She watched in the newsfeed.
“We were surprised, really surprised. Myself, I prefer a nice bottle of wine - not rubbish like that.”
Speaking earlier this week, Inspector Simon Riley said: “The production and supply of illegal drugs blights our communities and we will continue to take action against anyone involved in drug dealing.”
