Ninth arrest over fatal stabbing

POLICE RELEASE PICTURE OF MAN, 31, WHO DIED AFTER INCIDENT IN THE MEADOWS

POLICE have released a photo of a man who died after a fatal stabbing.

Michael Anton O’connor, 31, was found by police in a critical condition after officers were called out to reports of a fight in Wilford Crescent West, in The Meadows, just before 10.30pm on Wednesday, November 10.

Mr O’connor, from Alexandra Park, later died at the Queen’s Medical Centre.

Police have released a picture of him as officers released an update into a murder investigat­ion launched after his death.

A ninth person has been arrested in connection with the case: a 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and she has been released on conditiona­l bail.

It comes after eight other people were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the case.

Those eight people – including seven men aged 19, 21, 23, 27, 29, 34 and 47 and a 37-year-old woman – have also been released on conditiona­l bail in connection with the investigat­ion.

On Monday evening, candles were lit in The Meadows as people paid their respects to Mr O’connor.

Routledge, of Nottingham­shire Police, said: “This remains a complex and fast-moving investigat­ion.

“We have a dedicated team of detectives, crime scene investigat­ors and forensic scientists completing enquiries to establish the exact events of the evening of November 10 and to achieve justice for Michael and his family and friends.

“Our thoughts remain with them and we continue to have specially trained officers supporting Michael’s family through this difficult time.

“Anyone with informatio­n which may assist with our enquiries can contact police on 101.”

Inspector Karl Thomas, who leads the City South neighbourh­ood policing team, added: “We are continuing to deploy a visible policing presence in the area to provide reassuranc­e for local residents, as we do understand the events of last week will have caused concern in the community. We are also continuing to work in partnershi­p with faith and community leaders who are undertakin­g outreach work in the area in response to this tragedy.
