the ‘poshest’ postcodes in Notts
THERE are some fabulous areas across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
However, associations with legends, the draw of the countryside or proximity to the city or good road links have all helped to set certain areas ahead of the rest.
We asked property website Zoopla for its take on which of Nottinghamshire’s areas and streets it considered some of the poshest based on property price sold.
Daniel Copley, consumer spokesperson at Zoopla said: “Nottingham’s most desirable areas dominate the county’s most expensive streets list.
“Chilwell Lane in the idyllic suburb of Bramcote takes the crown - and it’s easy to see why with its proximity to Bramcote Hills Park, the A52/M1 and several Ofsted outstanding rated local schools.”
So, based on selling prices over the last year, here are seven of the current poshest areas to live in Nottinghamshire according to Zoopla.
Bramcote
Bramcote... in particular, Chilwell Lane, Bramcote, NG9. According to the data, this lane comes top of the list.
The average value of homes here has topped at a whopping £2,516,000 over the past year, although you can pick up a house on the street for much less if you fancy making this road your home.
Phil Burton, director at Robert Ellis Estate Agents who specialises in selling property in this area, said: “We have sold quite a lot of high end properties in Chilwell Lane this year solidifying its desirability.
There are traditionally higher value locations in the area but we have had two new luxury developments recently - Baxter Green and a site by Maltby
Homes - which have pushed up transactions this year so I can see why the Lane would be at the top of the list”.
Baxter Green was a £27million new build project on the former St John’s College that was created by Willmark Homes.
Beeston
Staying within the Broxtowe local authority district, a road in Beeston NG9 comes next on the list.
Long-standing favourite, Beeston Fields Drive has homes with an average value of around £1,498,000, according to Zoopla’s data.
The road’s position alongside Beeston Fields Golf Club makes it particularly attractive plus it is gated at one end and has the added appeal of homes on one side of the road backing on the golf course itself. Many of the homes in the road date to the 1920s, when the golf course was established.
Edwalton
Another longstanding location of note is Edwalton. This suburb of Nottingham has some beautiful homes within the area as well the advantage of convenience of location.
Edwalton is just five miles from the city centre, has great access to the A52, and yet in places it has the feel of a much more rural location perhaps helped by some of the areas larger homes with sizable gardens.
Of course there’s a mix of property here ranging from more affordable shared ownership new build at just over £100,000 and ranging upward to million pound plus properties. Huge numbers of new homes have and are being built at the moment running up to the A52 Wheatcroft island.
The ‘poshest’ roads in the area at the moment though are in the established part of the area and include Croft Road, Grange Road and Church Lane, which have all been highlighted by Zoopla in its data.
Croft Road, NG12 has an average price of £1,398,000, and comes in at number three on the list of most expensive streets.
Houses in Grange Road, NG12 number four on the list - has an average value of £1,317,000, while Church Lane, NG12, number seven on the list, has an average house value of £1,187,000.
Ravenshead/papplewick
Tourist attractions around Ravenshead and Papplewick are aplenty including the historic Newstead Abbey - the ancestral home of Lord Byron Papplewick Pumping Station and, a little further north, Sherwood Forest.
Ravenshead itself is around 11 miles to the north of Nottingham city centre but before you get into the village heading out of Papplewick is Blidworth Waye.
The NG15 road that runs up to the A60 has been highlighted as the fifth most expensive street in Nottingham with an average price of £1,314,000.
Southwell
Famed for its Minster and Racecourse plus reputedly the birthplace of the Bramley Apple, the pretty town of Southwell has plenty going for it.
The town has some fabulous homes and in a variety of price ranges - currently, homes for sale range from shared ownership property at around £62,500 to a stunning 9-bed at nearly £1.4 million.
If you are looking for the current most expensive street then Zoopla’s data points at Upton Road, NG25 with an average value of £1,298,000.
The Park Estate
The eighth most expensive road in Nottinghamshire is a city centre location.
Nottingham’s oldest private estate, The Park has long held exclusive status with its original gas street lighting and historical castle connections.
Homes within The Park range from small apartments to huge properties full of character or modern grand designs. Current prices span everything from around the £170,000 mark for a two-bed apartment to a four-bed family home at £1m but houses here go much larger and more expensive.
Zoopla has highlighted Newcastle Circus NG7 as the current most expensive street in the area based on sold figures in the last year. It puts the average price at £1,049,000.
West Bridgford
Under three miles from the city, West Bridgford is a suburb that appeals to those looking for close proximity to the city but with access to good schooling and family based facilities.
Separated from the city by the River Trent, but with two road access bridges linking the location - Lady Bay and Trent Bridge - West Bridgford has a good array of facilities nearby.
You’ll find an array of bars and restaurants in Central Avenue along with shops including Waterstones, Iceland and Marks and Spencer.
The area has a large Co-op, there is an ASDA in Loughborough Road, while sports facilities include Rushcliffe Arena, parks and football pitches.
Of course, Notts County, Nottingham Forest and Trent Bridge Cricket ground are within easy reach and there are top rated schools in the area.
While a number of the roads in West Bridgford are desirable, it was Dovedale Road, NG2 that made the most expensive roads list.
The road has some lovely traditional homes and has an average property value of around £1,047,000.
