Burchnall joy as Magpies pass screen test
HEAD COACH HAPPY TO WRAP UP THREE POINTS AT MEADOW LANE AFTER TOUGH AWAY TRIPS
NOTTS County head coach Ian Burchnall was thrilled with his side’s gutsy performance as they overcame Dagenham & Redbridge at Meadow Lane.
The Magpies secured a 2-1 win over Daryl Mcmahon’s side in the televised clash.
Frank Vincent gave the hosts the lead in the first half of the National League encounter.
But Angelo Balanta struck three minutes before the break when he headed in from a corner.
Ruben Rodrigues missed a golden chance to give Notts the lead again after the break but Kyle Wootton came to the rescue when he headed in Callum Roberts’ centre.
The victory lifted Notts up to fifth in the National League, four points behind leaders Chesterfield and Burchnall was happy with how his side battled to a crucial victory. “I am delighted,” he said. “We’ve had a tough week. We’ve had two away games which were long trips.
“We’ve been a little bit threadbare in terms of injuries and illness so to play at home on a Saturday night against a really good team, was a great game for us.
“It was very windy down on the pitch and you could see the ball holding up. It affects the game a little bit.
“But in general I thought we managed the conditions well. In the first half we were very good and I was disappointed to be pegged back.
“In the second half we were up and down a little bit but we created two big chances.
“We could have killed the game off a bit earlier but they are a dangerous team.
“I was very happy to see the game out.
“We’ve been in these tight games a few times recently. We got pegged back once but then we kept our noses in front.”
