Tenth person is now charged with O’connor murder
FIVE SUSPECTS IN CROWN COURT HEARING AS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
TEN people have now been charged with murdering Michael Anton O’connor and yesterday five of them appeared at Nottingham Crown Court.
Mr O’connor was found with knife wounds in Wilford Crescent West, in The Meadows just before 10.30pm on November 10.
The 31-year-old, from Alexandra Park, later died at the Queen’s Medical Centre.
On Saturday night, Leonard Ward, 41, of Marwood Road, Carlton, became the latest suspect to be charged with murder in connection with the investigation.
He was one of five suspects who appeared over a video link at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday.
Their cases were all adjourned until January 7.
In court were Michael Mingoes, 19, of Powell Street, Manchester; Joshua Agboola, 28, of Leven Grove, Darwen, Blackburn; Joseph Boscombe, 39, of Rostherne Avenue, Manchester, and Carla Mcguire, 51, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows. Jonathan Cox, prosecuting, said that it was not possible to set a trial date immediately. The case could be heard in the late summer or autumn next year. Also charged are Jerome Sheard, 29, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows; Rebecca Bell, 36, of Loughrigg Close, The Meadows; Paula Usherwood, 37, of Central Avenue, Beeston; Michael Mcguire, 34, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows, and Curtis Sheard, 23, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows. They have all been remanded in custody. An 11th person – Kerry-anne Shepherd, 34, of Plantagenet Street, St Ann’s, who is charged with assisting an offender – has also been remanded in custody after appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court last week.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Routledge, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have now charged a tenth person with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Michael Anton O’connor. My team has been working tirelessly to find all those responsible for Michael’s death and our investigations will continue until they are all found and put before the courts.
“This is a complex investigation which involves detectives pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to make sure we are doing everything in our power to get answers for Michael’s family.
“Due to the incident there has been an increased police presence in The Meadows area since this fatal attack and this will continue to help reassure the community. Our thoughts remain with Michael’s family at this extremely tough time.”
