‘School bullies are ruining my daughter’s life’

MUM CLAIMS ACADEMY IS GIVING NO SUPPORT

A MUM says her teenage daughter is being bullied so badly that she has threatened to harm herself – and that her school is doing nothing about it.

Single mother Rebecca Pearce, 35, from Daybrook, says her daughter has been bullied at the Arnold Hill Spencer Academy from Year 7, when she joined, to the present day. Her daughter, 14, is now in Year 10.

Miss Pearce said the situation had now got to the point where her daughter was being spray painted on and her tie was being ripped off.

And Miss Pearce, who is studying English and maths at Nottingham College, claims nothing has been done to tackle the issue.

She said her daughter was targeted by certain pupils, adding: “I’ve pulled her out for three weeks as people find it funny to make fun of her and push her to her limits.

“She’s struggling, is not being supported with that and it’s made me feel horrible, too. I’ve not been coping well and my anxiety is high.

“All her grades are low and there’s no support in that sense either.”

Her daughter has global developmental delay and learning difficulties.

The school has given the family a laptop and Miss Pearce claimed she was told a home tutor would be arranged to teach her daughter at home. But this had not happened and she was unable to teach her herself.

She said: “I can’t do that, I haven’t got the skills and I’m trying to do my own college work and my daughter has four other siblings.

“It’s not my responsibility to look for a new school and I wouldn’t know the first thing about looking for one – if there was any support, we wouldn’t have the foggiest of how to access it.

“I’ve been into the school screaming and crying, telling them my kid has been going through such a rough time. “I’m a single mother and I don’t have any support, I don’t have any from my family – a few friends help out but, apart from that, it’s just me and it’s difficult.” Arnold Hill Spencer Academy did not wish to comment, but in an email to Miss Pearce on Sunday, November 21, viceprincipal Steve Taylor wrote that the school had the child’s “best interests at heart”. He was sorry Miss Pearce felt the academy had let her and her daughter down, saying he was aware the teenager “has been the target of some unpleasant conduct over time”. “But, equally, she has been unpleasant with others,” Mr Taylor wrote. Miss Pearce had the right to apply for other schools and, if she chose to do that, the academy would support her. But it wouldn’t be the academy’s preference for her to leave.

I’ve pulled her out for three weeks as people find it funny to make fun of her...
