Deliveries only at a Mcdonald’s that’s one of a kind!

FIRST CITY BRANCH WHERE WALK-IN CUSTOMERS ARE NOT ALLOWED

NOTTINGHAM’S first delivery-only Mcdonald’s restaurant has opened.

The unit – at Chettles Trade Park off Midland Way in Nottingham – will not be open to anyone wanting to walk in and order a meal.

Instead, only couriers making deliveries from Uber Eats or Just Eat will be able to enter.

They will collect the food before transporting it to customers.

It will opened for the first time yesterday and has created 60 new jobs.

Jerry Nicholls, a man who owns 10 other Mcdonald’s branches in Nottingham, says the facility is designed to take some pressure away from others nearby which are open to everyone to use.

Mr Nicholls said: “It’s been a few months in the planning – getting people in, hiring them, training them and getting them ready.

“I think it shows our commitment to delivery.

“With recent events, deliveries have gone up, with people preferring to order from home.

“This I think will relieve the pressure from the nearest restaurant – we’ve specifically put this here next to our Nuthall Road restaraunt, which is our busiest delivery restaurant in the city – to take the pressure off that restaurant. It takes the couriers away from the restaurant. Relieving the pressure there, and bringing the couriers here, means we can better look after our in-store customers and drive-through customers at Nuthall Road.”

The new Mcdonald’s is quite hidden away – there is no huge “M” and there are no menus, as only couriers will be heading there – and the hope is that there won’t be any traffic problems given the quiet nature of the surrounding area.

It’s also tp keep away customers who mistakenly think they can order something themselves by walking inside.

There are 20 parking spaces for visitors while they wait for their orders to be prepared.

The restaurant is only the seventh of its kind in the UK, and the first in Nottingham. A similar venture is planned to open in Derby in around two weeks’ time.

“I think Mcdonald’s are looking at this as well and wondering if it will work,” Mr Nicholls continued.

“Because ultimately we don’t know. We think this will work, we’re very well prepared for it to work, but the proof will be in the pudding.

“I think Mcdonald’s will be looking at this carefully and if this works we will be build more of these.

“We’ll always want to build a more traditional Mcdonald’s. People like them. We’re a family restaurant. We will never move away from that.

“But this will help us make those family restaurants even better.”

As many as 80 people are employed at the restaurant, which is located in a huge warehouse, and boasts a staff room with lockers for employees.
