Yellow weather warning for Notts as winds of 50mph forecast
A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for tomorrow for the whole of Nottinghamshire because of a new storm in which winds could reach 50mph.
Storm Barra is expected to bring a deep area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic, meaning there will be strong winds and rain across the UK and Ireland.
The warning of winds issued by the Met Office means there could be disruption to travel in Nottinghamshire.
Forecasters warn that delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, some bus and train journeys could take longer and delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely too.
They also warn of the possibility of some short-term loss of power and other services, and that it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
Frank Saunders, a chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Strong winds arriving across the west through Tuesday morning, will spread inland and reach eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening.
“Gusts of 45-50 mph are expected widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations.
“The strongest winds will ease across inland areas into the overnight period.”
There is a yellow weather warning of snow for parts of northern England and in Scotland.
Brent Walker, deputy chief meteorologist, said: “A band of rain will turn to snow across northern England and Scotland through Tuesday.
“Two-to-five centimetres of snow is expected to accumulate quite widely across the warning area, but locally this could reach 10 centimetres, particularly in parts of the Southern Uplands and Highlands.”
