MANSFIELD Town co-owner Carolyn Radford is in hospital and is set to undergo an “emergency, urgent and complex operation”.

Mrs Radford co-owns the League Two club with husband John Radford, and is also the co-chair. She is the youngest person to hold the position of chair in the Football League.

She was appointed as the club’s CEO in 2011, before taking on the role as co-chair after David Sharpe was appointed to succeed her in September last year. On the social media platform, Mrs Radford said she had not been well for the past “six months or so”, and that she was “so pleased but also terrified” to be having the operation.

She posted a picture on Instagram of her in a hospital bed.

Mrs Radford wrote: “I’ve been getting lots of messages asking why I’ve been so quiet.

“Those closest to me know that I’ve been really struggling with illhealth for six months or so.

“Today, I’m so pleased but also terrified to be finally undergoing what’s now going to be an emergency, urgent and complex operation.

“But hoping to be back on my dancing feet by Christmas and ready for Mansfield Town to face the giants in the third round of the FA Cup in January!

“My amazing family and friends have been my strength lately, especially my expat family.

“My incredible husband, John, deserves a medal – I love you and our three gorgeous boys with all my heart. Sending lots of love to you all out there – I guess tough times make us appreciate the good times.”

The post has received support from followers and friends, with many sending best wishes to Mrs Radford.

Mrs Radford now lives in the Algarve in Portugal with her husband and three children.

Mansfield won 3-2 away at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday to claim their place in the third round of the FA Cup, where teams from the Premier League and the Championship enter.

The Stags sit 15th in League Two after strong results following a poor start to the season.
