PEOPLE living on a new multi-million-pound ‘affordable’ housing estate have opened up on life in an area which is “nice and quiet and has great diversity”.

More than 30 homes and seven flats were completed this summer on the site in Tapestry Close, off Morley Avenue in Mapperley. They were built for people to rent affordably, rent to buy or occupy under shared ownership.

The Nottingham Community Housing Association development cost £5.5m and also offers residents designated parking facilities and electric vehicle charging points.

Among the new occupants is Kimberly Wedderburne, 31, a graphic designer, who said that the street was full of diversity and has good neighbours.

“It’s a new estate – because of where I was living before this is great for me,” she said.

“I’ve had a few issues because it’s a new build – there’s a few leaks and things like that.

“I think the street is great. It has great diversity.

“I’ve got kids and there are other kids on the street as well so when we moved here they would all play together – great neighbours.

“Apart from the issues inside, which were resolved quite quickly, I don’t really have any issues.”

Fred Voordtman, 38, a gymnastics coach, said: “I do like living here.

“It’s close to the Sherwood shops and close to Mapperley Top so it’s nice in the middle.

“It’s also nice and quiet.” “The property is quite big – I’m on my own so I have enough room. And he added: “The garden is in the south so it’s nice whenever the sun shines.” Kasia Borowczak, 40, said: “I like my property – it’s nice and quiet. “The neighbours are OK. There are no problems. “It’s good.” The development includes Nottingham Community Housing Association’s 10,000th home, which has a plaque to mark the milestone.

The homes were built on a derelict textile factory site for which the name Tapestry Close was chosen to commemorate the former site.
