A NEW family-run independent beauty salon has opened its doors in a Nottinghamshire village.

Toorc Tanning and Beauty Room in Pepper Road, Calverton, officially opened its doors with a launch party to show off what they have to offer.

The business offers an array of beauty treatments ranging from waxing and pedicures to botox and fillers.

The salon also has three lay down sunbeds and one vertical as well as amenities such as a kids’ corner with a Playstation and colouring pages.

Nicola Croot, 44, and Courtney Stockdale, 23, wanted to start up a business together as mother and daughter.

Mrs Croot said: “We thought Calverton was lacking a tanning booth and we wanted to do something together.

“We’ve leased it for five years and if all goes well, we might open in Mapperley also.”

The pair have completely revamped the place, with white marble floors and a seating area for waiting customers.

Ms Stockdale, who used to work as a dental nurse, is the beautician for the salon.

She said: “I’ll be doing the beauty side, it’s exciting.

“I used to do beauty anyway so it feels good coming back into it.

“My favourite thing to do is eyelash extensions, it’s a big thing now.

“Friends have to come to support us which is nice.”

Councillor Boyd Elliott said he is happy to see an independent businesses setting up shop in Calverton.

He said: “I think it is a great idea, I’m all for backing independent business.

“With the population growing in Calverton and it being a destination people can walk to, it’ll be great for the village. Calverton will always

benefit from independent businesses.”

Councillor Pat Bosworth is also “absolutely” in favour of the independent business.

The salon is open seven days a week.
