A NEW wine bar has opened in Nottingham’s city centre – serving drinks from all over the world alongside a selection of tapas.

Owners of The Wine Room have opened their latest venture in the Lace Market area of the city.

There are more than 50 wines to choose from and managers say French favourite Sancerre is proving popular.

They want a calm environment for customers to develop their knowledge of wine.

They offer a tapas menu with small plates ranging from amazing sticky pork belly bites to baked camembert.

“We want to ensure we get the right people in here.

“We want a calm and relaxed environment for our customers to come and enjoy the different wines we have and expand on their own wine knowledge and have a chance to try our tapas menu,” said Mish Fretwell, 35, the venture’s business development manager.

The brand offers a wide selection of wine and small plates from around the world – there’s a vast variety of small plates.

“We have a varied selection of world wines, champagnes and rosés. “All our wines offer a 50ml taster so customers can come in and try a little taste of whatever wines they like before they buy a whole bottle or glass.”

The building was previously home to craft beer pub the Head of Steam.

Managers of The Wine Room have kept some of the interior, but have made changes in keeping with the brand.

Ms Fretwell told the Post about exciting plans for the venue.

She said: “In the new year we are going to be launching a mini-diy wine-tasting experience – with five whites and five reds and up to 10 wines.

“There’s 50ml tasters which come with taster notes so you can learn a little bit about the wines.

“We’re really excited – getting to know what the customers want is one of the best bits so far.”

And she added: “The bonus to opening and finding out what the customers want first has meant that we can make sure that we are tailoring what we do to what our target market wants.

“We will be developing live music nights and party nights as well in the new year based on what the customers have given feedback on.”

The team are also developing a vegan selection on the menu in the new year.
