Major plans announced for Mcarthurglen park

-

PLANS to expand popular shopping destination Mcarthur Glen East Midlands Designer Outlet have moved a step closer.

Details have been submitted to Bolsover District Council, which could include changes to the current Nike store.

Three units at the designer outlet centre could be expanded according to the latest documents, reported Derbyshire Live.

The owners of Mcarthur Glen Designer Outlet say they’ve been in talks with Bolsover District Council about the possibility of the redevelopment of the three units since June and July of 2021.

The proposals would see new floors installed within units 1, 2 and 39.

This space could only be used for storage and not for trading in.

And additional retail space will come in the form of expanding the ground floor.

The outside of the units would be transformed as well taking away the current white walls and replacing them with a glass front.

The proposal also calls for the towers on top of the units to be removed and not replaced. Currently, units 1 and 2 are empty as they used to form GAP, which closed all its stores in the UK earlier this year and moved online only. A new tenant to replace the clothing retailer is expected to be announced in due course.

Unit 39 at Mcarthur Glen is currently the home of a Nike store with that unit getting a second floor added if the plans are given the go-ahead.

Speaking about the proposed changes, Designer Retail Outlet Centres, which runs the park, said: “The extensions are proposed in order to respond to specific commercial and operational requirements for new and relocated tenants.

“As well as small extensions to the existing retail units in question, non-trading mezzanines are to be created to accommodate ancillary spaces.

“Upgrading of those facades affected by the extension works will be made, including changes to the external facing materials. A minor reconfiguration of existing service yard areas will be undertaken to facilitate the extensions.”

The shopping centre, which opened in 1998, currently has 65 retailers trading and 12 food and drinks outlets. A decision on the expansion plans is expected by Wednesday, March 9.
