A NEW flagship Poundland store is set to open at a Nottingham retail park next month – one of the brand’s largest in the UK.

The shop – around three times bigger than a typical Poundland – will have more than 18,000 sq ft of retail space.

It will be opening in February at Riverside Retail Park, off Queen’s Drive, in the former Outfit shop which housed Dorothy Perkins, Topman, Topshop, Burton and Miss Selfridge.

The premises closed after the Arcadia Group went into administration in 2020.

The new store will have a chilled and frozen food section – and “a surprise”, selling items never previously sold by Poundland before.

Details will be announced closer to opening.

The new store is part of the company’s accelerated transformation plans, which include a “vigorous rollout” of chilled and frozen food to around 100 existing stores this year. Locations have yet to be revealed.

The company said the introduction of chilled and frozen food has been a massive hit with customers and has gathered pace since the 2020 acquisition of Barnsley-based specialist Fultons Foods.

Poundland’s managing director Barry Williams said: “I’m so proud of what our colleagues have achieved in 2021 and I’m excited about what we can deliver in 2022.

“The coming year will see us step up our transformation programme – including some of our largest stores and widest ranges – as we become the Poundland we know our customers want us to be.

“From groceries to clothing, homewares to frozen food, day by day we’ll continue to bring much more to customers in new and exciting stores tailor-made for where they live and how they want to shop.”
