‘Vicious’ attack by intruders on elderly couple

AN elderly couple were “viciously” attacked in their own home by intruders who broke in while they slept.

The man and woman, in their 80s, were asleep when the offenders entered their house, demanded money and injured them.

The incident occurred in Stoney Lane, Trowell, at around 12.26am yesterday.

One of the offenders demanded money from the couple before fleeing the property.

The woman sustained cuts to the right side of her head, severe swelling to her arm, and a possible broken jaw. Her husband had injuries to his face, arms and body.

But neither victim’s injuries are are thought to be life-threatenin­g or life-altering.

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, of Nottingham­shire Police, said: “This is an extremely violent attack on two elderly people who were sleeping in their own home.

“The two victims had to seek immediate medical attention for their injuries but thankfully they are not believed to be life-threatenin­g or life-altering.

“Incidents like this can have a huge impact on someone both mentally and physically and we will do everything in our power to support these two victims.

“Our officers have been at the scene throughout the night and will continue to be at the address conducting inquires to help put the pieces together to find whoever carried out this violent assault.

“We would like to urge the public to get in touch with us if they have any informatio­n at all – no matter how insignific­ant they feel it is as it may help us with our inquiries.”

Neighborho­od Policing Inspector for Broxtowe, Mike Ebbins, said: “I would like to reassure the public that our officers are doing everything they can to investigat­e this incident.

“Residents around the area can expect to see a higher police presence to reassure the public that we are there should anyone want to speak to us.

“We understand the impact incidents like this can have on people and will do everything in our power to bring those responsibl­e to justice.

“I would like to reiterate the need for anyone with any informatio­n to come forward as it may help us with our inquires.”
