Prutton: Has Taylor ticked Forest boxes?

-

FORMER Nottingham Forest midfielder David Prutton wonders if Lyle Taylor has “ticked enough boxes” for the Reds.

Taylor arrived at the City Ground in 2020 from Charlton Athletic.

This season the striker has made only 17 League appearances, falling down the pecking order.

Sky Sports pundit Prutton told our latest Garibaldi Red podcast: “It’s a funny one with Lyle because we haven’t seen him score a bag full of goals.

“There is very much a player in there that can be prolific, it’s just whether is he facilitated to score those goals. You can say he wasn’t and neither was Lewis (Grabban).

“Does he tick enough of the boxes? I’m talking about the very boring things like whether the heart’s there, the legs are there, the desire to get about the pitch. And if you’re not getting those goals, are you doing all the other supposedly cliche stuff? Does he do enough of that?

“If Keinan (Davis) comes in and hits the ground running, then you’ve got to try and be better in training, make sure you’re part of the squad, first and foremost.

“There was that situation at Charlton (Athletic) where he said ‘I’m not playing because I’ve got something lined-up.’

“With the confidence and the personality of the player, I thought it would then have been a case of hitting the ground running (at Forest) but sometimes it doesn’t necessarily fall into place.

“A confident striker knows where the goal is but sometimes something doesn’t click.

“But to try and twist it into a positive, perhaps Keinan comes in and his addition gives the front line that kick-up the backside to make sure every single player performs when they’re called upon.”
