A POLICE raid which uncovered “significant amounts” of drugs has sparked fears over a “dangerous” estate in Daybrook.

Residents spoke of their worries after detectives raided a flat in Frobisher Gardens near the Madford Retail Park, off Bedale Road, after a string of complaints about alleged drug dealing.

They found what they suspect to be heroin, said to be in “large rocks ready to be cut in to 0.1g and 0.2g deals”.

Police also found and what they believe to be smaller rocks of crack cocaine, cannabis and mamba, a synthetic cannabinoid. Now parents sat they are scared. Dhanya Amilkumar, a mother-oftwo from the area, said: “I am just very concerned, especially because my oldest child is a teenager.

“It is just scary to know that this area has a problem with drugs.”

Ms Amilkumar, a nurse, moved to her current address last July.

“I remember that on the way here the taxi driver told me how dangerous this area can be – but I did not listen,” the 37-year-old said.

“It is not just drugs – my child’s bike was stolen.

“I think we just need more police here – it is very concerning.”

Neil Andrews, who has lived in the area for 14 years, said there had been concerns about the estate for a long time.

“It has always been like this,” he said.

“There are a lot of families living here, and it is just very concerning.

“We have always had concerns about what is going on in those flats.”

The 54-year-old added: “It does not surprise me any more – there are always police around here.

“There is always something going on.”

Police raided the flat on Thursday morning.

A 53-year-old man and 42-yearold woman will be questioned in connection with the investigation.

However, a spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that there have been no arrests connected to the raid.

It followed a number of police searches at other properties around the same street over the summer of 2020.

However, some people said they felt reassured by the police presence.

Aaron Wheeldon, a factory worker who lives in the area, added: “I think that overall it is getting better.

“But drugs have always been a problem here – at least we do not see a lot of people driving down here at night.”

The 31-year-old added: “It is concerning, but hopefully police will get to the bottom of it.”

In a statement, police said the latest raid followed “numerous complaints of ongoing drug dealing”.

The statement said: “Entry was gained and significant amounts of suspected heroin, that was in large rocks ready to be cut in to 0.1g and 0.2g deals, was seized.

“As well as this smaller rocks of suspected crack cocaine, and amounts of cannabis and suspected mamba for personal use, were also seized.

“A 53-year-old male and 42-yearold female will be questioned in relation to drug supply offences.

“Heroin sells on the street for £10 for 0.1 gram and £20 for 0.2 grams, and addicts can smoke, snort or inject that amount numerous times a day.

“This expensive addiction has a huge knock-on effect, and leads to increased thefts and other crimes, to pay for the drug.

“It also endangers the lives of every user, who do not know if, or what, substances their heroin may have been cut with.”

The statement went on: “The team have conducted a number of warrants, at other properties in the vicinity of that street, over the summer months in 2020, but the problems continues.

“The City North team encourage anyone in that area, or any other area affected by drug dealing, to provide the police with information that will help us continue to tackle the issues in your neighbourhood.”
