Street was ‘covered in white smoke’ as fire ripped through house
PEOPLE living in Aspley have spoken of their shock after a house fire in their neighbourhood.
The blaze started in Grace Drive shortly after 7.30pm on Monday.
Crews from Stockhill, Highfields and London Road Fire Station attended the fire and Nottinghamshire Police remained at the scene yesterday morning.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze spread throughout all three floors of the property and that the first floor has been severely damaged.
Now, residents living on the road have spoken of their concern following the house fire.
A woman who lives in Grace Drive but wishes to remain anonymous said: “We’ve never had a fire around here.
“I feel bad for the family. We do know them. We saw it last night. I saw fire engines.
“I didn’t really smell anything but saw the smoke.”
A man who also wishes to remain anonymous, and is also a resident of Grace Drive, said: “I heard everyone outside so I opened the door.
“I could smell the smoke quite strongly. The road was covered with white smoke.
“It is a quiet neighbourhood and this is the first time something like this has happened.”
Nobody had to be rescued and no injuries have been reported.
A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Stockhill, Highfields and London Road Fire Station attended a house fire on Grace Drive in Aspley shortly after 7.30pm [on Monday].
“A Red Cross vehicle from Westfield Fire Station also attended the incident.
“Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. The fire was on all three floors of the property and the first floor has been severely damaged by the fire.
“Nobody was rescued and there were no injuries.
“Fire investigation will be ongoing today to determine the cause and the scene has now been handed over to Nottinghamshire Police.”
