Dons star Twine on radar at Forest

REDS UNDERSTOOD TO BE KEEPING EYE ON IN-FORM LEAGUE ONE ATTACKING MIDFIELDER

NOTTINGHAM Forest are understood to be keeping tabs on in-form MK Dons attacking midfielder Scott Twine.

The 22-year-old has been putting in some sparkling displays for the League One side this season, topping the charts for the number of assists in the division.

And it is believed he has caught the eye of the Reds, who are understood to have been monitoring his progress.

Twine made the move to Stadium MK last summer, signing what was announced as a “longterm deal”, and has quickly made a big impact.

A regular in the starting eleven, he has bagged 11 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions, including hitting a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Swindon Town in September.

He has also netted braces against Lincoln City and Cambridge United, and was named League One Player of the Month for November.

In League action, he has weighed in with eight assists – joint-top of the rankings with Fleetwood’s Paddy Lane.

MK Dons fought off competition to sign him last June. He made the move as a free agent, with Swindon Town due compensation after his contract had expired, due to Twine being under the age of 24.

He came up through the ranks at Swindon, spending time on loan with Chippenham Town, Waterford and Newport County.

A fine 2020-21 campaign saw him claim a combined 14 goals in 49 outings for Newport and Swindon in what was a breakthrough year for the youngster.

Asked about his best position, he told Sky Sports last month: “I think my best position is a number 10.

“I would have said striker two years ago but I’m also more of a number eight now, where I can roam into space and try and hurt the opposition. I think that’s where best suits me.”

Forest have generally pursued a younger profile of target under CEO Dane Murphy and head coach Steve Cooper, while also being conscious of creating a blend of youth and experience.

So far in the January transfer window, the Reds have brought in on-loan Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis, defender Steve Cook, on a free from Bournemouth, and full-back Richie Laryea in a $1m deal from MLS outfit Toronto.
