A TEENAGE driver ploughed his car into a wall as he led police on a highspeed chase.

Rocky Price, 18, was spotted by police officers out on patrol in Newark and ignored requests to pull over, driving on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic at high speed.

A short pursuit took place around the Newark area, with Price driving at 80mph in a 30mph zone at around 9.15pm on Tuesday.

The teenager continued to drive erratically and collided with three stationary cars, causing significant damage to each of them in the process.

He then lost control of his car while travelling at speed along London Road, Newark, and crashed into a garden wall outside a house.

Price was arrested at the scene of the crash and later charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution after sustaining minor injuries from the incident.

Price, of no fixed address, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to all the charges.

He has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on July 14, 2022.

Neighbours in London Road described how they heard an “almighty bang” when the car went through the wall.

Retired Rodger Johnson, 72, and Lynn Johnson, 69, were watching television that evening before hearing a crash.

Lynn said: “We were just sat watching TV and then there was this big bang. I grabbed the phone but as soon as we came out the police were there.”

Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Price’s actions that night were reckless in the extreme and could have quite easily resulted in somebody being seriously injured.

“Thankfully, nobody was harmed in this instance, although that is only down to the efforts of our officers who were in attendance, and pure luck. “There is absolutely no excuse for any motorist to drive erratically on our roads.

“It’s important that all motorists understand that speed limits exist for a reason, which is reducing the chances of people being put in danger of harm. “The force is committed to keeping Nottinghamshire’s roads safe, so will always respond swiftly to any reports we receive of dangerous driving. We are pleased to see that Price has now appeared before the courts and has owned up to his actions.”
