Death crash: Man in court
COLLISION CLAIMED LIFE OF CARE WORKER, 25
A BANNED driver has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a 25-year-old care worker in a crash.
The fatal accident, at 8.10pm on January 19 in Southwell Road, Oxton, involved two vehicles. Jessica Drury, 25, of Bulwell, died at the scene. Her vehicle ended up in a ditch.
She had been to attend to an elderly couple she cared for and was returning home to change into her uniform for her shift at a hospital.
The tragic details were heard as a 35-year-old man appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court accused of serious traffic offences.
Matthew Adrian Plimmer, of Raylawn Street, Mansfield, is accused of driving while disqualified in an Audi Q7 on Bonner Lane, Calverton. He is further accused of causing the death of Miss Drury when he was a banned driver on January 19 on Southwell Road, Oxton.
He is also charged with using the Audi Q7 without insurance in Bonner Lane, Calverton, and causing Miss Drury’s death by driving without due care and attention when over the drinkdrive limit.
It is alleged that Plimmer, a selfemployed plumber, had a blood alcohol reading of 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, over the legal limit of 80, when he was breathalysed after the crash
Freddie Sail, prosecuting, told magistrates: “This is an extremely sad case of an incident that dates back to January 19 this year. This case involves two vehicles and a fatal road traffic collision.”
Plimmer was committed to be tried at Nottingham Crown Court on July 15.
Plimmer wore trainers, jeans and a T-shirt at the brief hearing.
Presiding magistrate Peter Forster told him: “Two of the charges can be dealt with at the crown court. The matter is being sent there. The first hearing at the crown court will take place on July 15. You will be required to be in attendance then and I grant you conditional bail.”
He thanked the family of Miss Drury for attending and passed on his sympathies.
