A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE pub could be demolished to make way for a new housing project.

The Three Lions Pub in Netherfield Lane, Meden Vale, near Mansfield, may soon be transformed into 41 affordable homes.

The pub had struggled for years and was put up for auction in 2019.

Fresh plans for the site would see 24 apartments, eight town houses and nine terrace/semi-detached homes built in place of the village pub.

The scheme would be wholly owned by Jigsaw Homes, and the tenure will be 100 percent affordable rent.

There would be parking at the site, with one space per home as well as additional visitors spaces.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s Highways team has raised an objection to the project. They have said one off-street parking space per dwelling is “insufficient” and will lead to on-street parking along Netherfield Lane.

They also called the plans “very car orientated”, adding they did not promote pedestrian movements along the main access routes.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG said the new housing would add more than 100 patients, with them requesting a financial contribution of £22,216.87 to help them accommodate this influx.

In a planning document, Paddock Johnson, on behalf of applicant Shape Land and Property Limited, said: “We have ensured the new development fits within the existing character and scale of the surrounding residential properties along Netherfield Lane, whilst ensuring we have minimal impact on the living conditions of existing and future residents within the surrounding area.

“Additionally, the proposal will contribute towards the overall economic, social, and environmental improvement in Mansfield district.

“The proposal has been designed with great consideration of the rural communities of Meden Vale and with an intention to maintain the local distinctive character.

“It is understood there are limited jobs and services provided in these areas, so this development will benefit not only its future occupiers but will allow access to job opportunities for the local residents.”

The application is currently pending consideration by Mansfield District Council.
