Tiny place full of fun and delights

- Danielle Jeffery

THIS week I visited a place I have been wanting to visit for a while – Totally Tapped on Chilwell Road in Beeston.

Totally Tapped Micropub and Bottle Shop is the taproom of Nottingham brewery Totally Brewed.

The business was founded in 2014. In 2017 it opened Totally Tapped, a small one-roomed pub with benches and stools; on my visit, each seat was filled. The Beeston community obviously knows where to find great beer.

The back walls are filled with pump clips and beer labels – a little history of the big beers this small pub has served in the past. A lovely surprise in the rest room is a wall of Polaroid pictures of regulars: young, not so young and four-legged!

Totally Brewed is able to brew fantastic beers for all mediums – cask, keg and can. It has four lines dedicated to showing the brewery’s best cask offerings, while Totally Tapped has seven keg lines, each offering something for everyone.

I decided to try an imperial porter on keg by Pōhjala, a micro brewery from Estonia. Peel and Bean has an ABV of 8.5% and is brewed with rye, cacao nibs and orange zest. Subtly boozy, the rye adds a nice dryness and slight spice which pairs really well with the orange zest.

Being a bottleshop also, Totally Tapped has two large fridges full of craft beer to drink in or take out. One is dedicated to Totally Brewed beer, with cans and mini kegs. The other fridge is for other breweries, including some of the best in the UK and beyond.

Totally Brewed continues to delight with its inventive beers, pop-culture beer names and brilliant can art.

With its new taproom set to open later this year, Totally Tapped Micro Pub and Bottle Shop will sadly close, but the new micro pub, I have no doubt, will have all that is loved about the current pub, just bigger and better. I look forward to visiting on its opening weekend.
